About Myself

Born in Scotland many years ago, I trained as an apprentice electronics technician before studying for an Electrical Engineering Degree at the Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.  After some interesting experiences as a marine instrumentation engineer, I decided to pursue a PhD in the area of Interactive Knowledge Manipulation using multiple microprocessors (not nearly as grand as it sounds).  This was followed by six years on the academic staff of the Electrical Engineering Department at  Edinburgh University.  Eventually, I noticed that the climate in Scotland was not to my liking and so the Coghill family set off, in the mid 1980's, to a faraway place called New Zealand.  By this time my interests had expanded from industrial microprocessor applications, to include the fledgling field of Artificial Neural Networks (ANN's).   These days I am trying to embed ANN's into electronic equipment.
