Frequently asked questions

WEN (Women In Engineering Network) is a forum for female students in the Faculty of Engineering to meet informally, support each other and make friends.

How many women students does the Faculty of Engineering have?

The Faculty of Engineering has a Part I (first year) intake of approximately 25% women, the highest in Australasia.

How do I join WEN?

WEN has a stand at the Engineering Student Societies Fair as part of Orientation. You can find out more about the activities and support we offer, and get answers to any questions you may have!

You can also join WEN at any time during the year by contacting the Women in Engineering Equity Adviser.

How much does it cost to join WEN?

It's free to join WEN!

However some of our events will require payment to cover costs (i.e. ice skating or movies nights). We also produce a WEN t-shirt every year which we charge for to cover printing costs.

How do I find out about WEN events?

WEN advertises upcoming events on the WEN Noticeboard on Level 3 in the Engineering Cafeteria and on the office door of the Women in Engineering Equity Adviser.

How else can I get involved?

  • Join the WEN Committee if you are interested in helping to organise events and activities.
  • Sign up to become a WEN tutor.
  • Become a role model for our brochures.
  • Present at our equity and recruitment events.

If you're interested in any of the above then contact the Women in Engineering Equity Adviser.

I still have a question, who can I contact for an answer?

You can send your question to wen@auckland.ac.nz or contact the Women in Engineering Equity Adviser.
